About Booklice

• Cream coloured or light brown insects
• 1mm long and wingless

Lifecycle:

Adult booklice feed on moulds that grow on damp materials, ie damp surfaces, wood, food (cereals) and plaster surfaces. Booklice are often found in large numbers in new build properties where the plaster is still damp.

A female booklouse lays (cements) her eggs, which are pearl coloured and sticky on damp surfaces. The young hatch and grow through 4 nymph stages to adulthood, taking a fortnight in total.

Treatment:

To prevent booklice infestations, thoroughly ventilate and if possible dry the infested area. Wipe away visible mould and heat the room. Remove any infested food (cereal).
